Coachella 2010 tilt shift video

“I wanted to portray a unique view of the incomparable Coachella experience. Following the crowds in the sunshine from arrival, camping, exploring the art in the arena, all the way through to the headliners at night, this film brings a miniature feel to this huge festival. For more information about how it was done, please see here: aerofilm.blogspot.com

Many thanks to Robbie and Tuna for operating the booms, and to everyone at Goldenvoice who helped me navigate the event to shoot.”

Directed, shot, cut and finished by Sam O’Hare.

San Francisco: Valencia shops

Valencia is home to a number of unique shops selling a variety of odd and interesting items. From a shoe store with an oven baking fresh cookies at the register, to entire stores dedicated to hand-made stationery. Earlier we featured a Pirate Supply shop. Some of the stores are clearly trend setters, the type of places that inspire similar creations in other cities and countries years later. Here are photos from some of our favorites including The Curiosity Shoppe, Viracocha, Paxton Gate, and Paxton Gate’s Curiosities For Kids.

Our garbage, our oceans

A long while back we featured the Plastiki project, a boat made from 12,500 plastic bottles. The construction portion of the project is now complete and what remains is for the project crew to sail from San Francisco to Sydney. They are on a mission to showcase waste as a resource and highlight plastic pollution. The project also has a robust internet and social media presence, allowing people to track the progress of the expedition now in progess.

Plastic waste is a huge threat to the earth’s oceans. It is typically not biodegradable. And plastic that ends up in the ocean eventually breaks down into small pieces and particles, contaminating water and endangering ocean life. Vice TV have put together a new series called “TOXIC”. It’s essentially a video series about humanity’s subconscious mission to destroy the earth. One of the featured stories goes and takes a first hand look at the plastic pollution problem…

“Come aboard as the VBS crew takes a cruise to the Northern Gyre in the Pacific Ocean, a spot where currents spin and cycle, churning up tons of plastic into a giant pool of chemical soup, flecked with bits and whole chunks of refuse that cannot biodegrade.” – VBS.tv
